Hi, I was in Malta the same time as the Royal Sussex in the 60s. My Dad was posted there with the Civil Service & I was at Tal Handaq school.
We knew Les & Co from the Sliema Caff.
Now I'm a Food & Travel Editor & I set up my own online magazine 18 months ago because we all got fed up with being let down by Editors. It's read worldwide.
Today is the 200th Anniversary of The Battle of Waterloo. Belgium didn't commemorate the 100th Anniversary as they were in a bad way after WW1 & they'd had enough of Battles!
I'm going there tomorrow on Eurostar as a guest to watch the re-enactment with a group of Journalists from all over Europe. It's going to be unforgettable. I was there a couple of weeks ago,
visiting all the farmhouses, etc that are being rapidly re-vamped.
There's a skeleton in a glass case in the new Museum. I was at the opening. They've learnt a lot from the examinations of the skeleton. But one travel guide started hate mail about the skeleton & the Belgium Tourist Board was inundated with nasty twitters & emails. It really held up their work. He finally apologised & said he never intended to cause trouble like that!
If any of you fancy seeing it, there are still some seats left on Eurostar on the way out, but getting back is harder on Sunday night.
Contact the Belgian Tourist Board for advice.
I've researched & written an article called, The Battle of Waterloo; did the weather affect the results? You can read it on B-C-ing-U! http://www.b-c-ing-u.com
Do add your Comment right at the bottom of the article. I'd be interested to hear your opinions & experiences!
I won't see them for a while as I'm back Sunday night & off to Switzerland Monday morning. It's a hard life!
PS we have room for a regular Diarist, to write on the same day every week. i have Diarists from all over the world, rather like the late, great Alastair Cook's Letters From America.
Best wishes,
Lyn Funnell
